Since taking over the helms of affairs at the beginning of the season from Quique Setien, Ronald Koeman has been doing the unthinkable with Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League but playing shabbily in La Liga, which has made fans refer to him as “The King of UCL, Slave of La Liga”.
Koeman was hijacked from the Dutch National team to be the head coach of the Spanish side after an unimpressive last season with Setien that ended trophyless for the first time in over 10 years.
Since taking the wheel at Barcelona, Koeman has won all his matches in the UCL, making Barcelona the only team to have won all her 5 games in the competition this season, scoring 16 goals and conceding just 2 in the process.
However, fans are criticizing his expertise at the domestic level as Barca sits on the 7th position in the league, 10 points behind leaders, Real Soceidad with Barca have 2 games in hand.
Before the appointment of Koeman, Barcelona used to struggle to win matches in the UCL, even with their talisman Lionel Messi on the pitch while they breeze past most of their opponents in the domestic league, but the reverse has been the case under the new coach.
Many Barcelona fans will no doubt prefer that the team wins the UCL this season over the domestic trophy but then, they will also want Koeman and his boys to always put up an impressive display when playing in the League.
Barcelona travels away from the Catalan this weekend to play against newly promoted side, Cardiz who surprisingly beat Spanish Champions Real Madrid 1 – 0 at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium back in October, 2020.
