Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi has been crowned the king of goals and assists of the last one decade between 2009 and 2019 as the player ended the decade with the highest goals and assists in the last ten years.
The world of football and Barcelona fans across the world have continued to praise Lionel Messi after an impressive decade which saw him win all possible club trophies with Barcelona, all more than twice and also ending the decade as the highest goal scorer in the history of his National team, Argentina.
According to stats in the last one decade, the 32 year old player has played 521 games for Barcelona, scoring a staggering 522 goals. He’s closely followed by rival, Crtistiano Ronaldo who played 489 games for both Real Madrid and Juventus, netting 477 goals.
With the above stats, Messi played 32 games more than Ronaldo for clubs in the last one decade. Messi also had 45 goals more than Ronaldo.
The Argentine wizard is also the highest creator of assists in the last one decade in the top 5 European Leagues. Messi created 205 goals that led to goals in 521 games and he is followed by fellow countryman, Angel Di Maria who had 188 assists in 450 games.
Lionel Messi ended 2019 as the most decorated player after he was awarded the FIFA World best player of the year, before winning the Ballon D’Or Award for a record sixth time. He also won the Pichichi Award for the highest goal scorer in Spanish League and the Di Stefano Award for the League’s best player of the year.
Messi ended the year winning a record sixth Golden Boot Award as the highest goal scorer in Europe. In the history of football, no player has ended a decade being the highest goal scorer and the highest assist creator.
The only sad thing is that Messi will hang his boots this decade but before then, let’s all enjoy him until then.
