Barcelona skipper and playmaker, Lionel Messi continues to set new record after becoming the first player in football history to win the prestigious Laureus Award, along with Formula 1 champion, Lewis Hamilton.
Messi won the award which took place in Berlin, and saw the Argentine named the Sportsman of the year 2019 and beating other sportsmen in the category.
The award organizers announced the winner on their Twitter handle, which has seen Messi fans around the world congratulate him on the new record.

Lewis Hamilton had same votes with Lionel Messi, hence both sportsmen were announced winners of the 2019 award.
Messi has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus Award on five different occasions which he never won before finally laying his golden hands on the award for 2019.
Recall that Tennis star, Novac Djokovic was the 2018 winner of the award and now Messi has taken over from him and now joins the likes of Rafael Nadal and Tiger Woods as winners of the award.
In 2019, Messi also won the FIFA World Best player of the Year, the European Golden shoe and the Pichichi awards to wrap up a successful season.
Messi is also presently the highest goal scorer and assist provider in La Liga this ongoing season.
