Futbol Club Barcelona is set to make history in the world of the beautiful game of football as the club is set to become the first team to produce the highest number of Ballon D’Or winners in club football.

Barcelona players have won the award for a number, 12 times with club legends like late Luis Suarez of Spain winning it once in 1960, Johan Cruyff of Holland winning it twice with Barcelona and once with Ajax in 1971, 1973 and 1974, Hristo Stoichkov of Bulgaria winning it once in 1994, Rivaldo of Brazil winning it once in 1999, Ronaldinho also of Brazil winning it once in 2005.

Lionel Messi has won the award five times in 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2015.

The above statistics shows that Barcelona has produced six players who have won the award on 12 different occasions.

Real Madrid equally has produced players who have won the award 12 times, namely,  Alfredi Di Stefano, Raymond Kopa, Luis Figo, De Lima Ronaldo, Zinedine Zidane, Fabio Cannavaro and Cristiano Ronaldo.

The 2019 edition of the Ballon D’Or which is organized by the France Football is set to come up on the 2nd of December, 2019 in Paris, France with Barcelona superstar, Lionel Messi in contention for the award.

According to some sources, Messi has better chances of winning the award for a record sixth time having won the FIFA World Best Player Award few weeks. Messi has already won the award five different times along with Juventus star and former Real Madrid player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Messi is set to battle it out with fellow players like Ronaldo, Van Dijk, Mbappe, De Jong, Salah, Mane, Griezzman, Kross and numerous other players for this year’s prestigious award.

If Messi wins  the award for 2019, Barcelona will leapfrog Real Madrid to becoming the club side with the highest number of players to have won the Ballon D’Or awards.

Messi will also become the first player in the history of football to win six Ballon D’Or awards.

Recall that Messi became the first player to win the award four times and five times before the record was broken by Cristiano Ronaldo.

Also in European football, Barcelona in both official and unofficial trophies has 130 trophies while Real Madrid has 118 trophies since their establishment.

Barcelona fans across the world will on the 2nd of December look forward to seeing Messi winning the covetous award so the club and the player can continue to break bounds and records in football.
